We're Calling On Gov. Kay Ivey To STOP HB 379 Sign the petition to ask Kay Ivey to veto this discriminatory bill!

On May 18, the Alabama Senate passed HB379, which would prohibit people and businesses from certain countries from purchasing property in Alabama.

Governor Ivey must veto HB 379 and prevent this unconstitutional and discriminatory bill from becoming a law that would cost the state.

  1. This sends a message that Alabama is not a safe place to invest their money in- not only to the countries that would be banned under this bill,  but also to any foreign people and businesses.
  2. This law undermines and undoes the efforts by Governor Ivey to bring in new foreign investors from countries like China and Korea, to expand the port of Mobile for exports to foreign markets like China, the 2nd largest exporter for the state.
  3. This law will result in a talent drain and impact the ability to attract new talent to the state’s many universities and research institutions.
  4. If enacted, this law would violate the 14th Amendment and the Fair Housing Act, and would not be effective in addressing concerns about national security. Alabama lawmakers should leave national security to our nation’s trusted institutions that are charged with that responsibility, rather than target and harass their neighbors and community members who happen to look different than them.

We are calling on Governor Ivey to reject this blatantly discriminatory bill and VETO HB379. Alabamians of all backgrounds deserve fair and equal treatment under the law.
