SB 77 would fire the ENTIRE Board of the Alabama Dept. of Archives and History and reduce the 16-member board to 12 at-large members. The new appointees would be selected by the Governor, Lieutenant Governor, Speaker of the House, and Speaker Pro Tempore of the Senate. 


Reasons Why This is RIDICULOUS!

1. Despite Senator Elliott's current stance, he had previously voted to confirm every member of the board he now seeks to dismiss, including three confirmations right before the Invisible Histories Program event.

2. This move is a clear act of retribution towards the Archives, undermining the principles of academic freedom and historical integrity.

3. This isn't just an assault on LGBTQ+ history; this is an attack to the entirety of our shared heritage as Alabamians

4. By proposing to dismantle the current board, this bill threatens to dismiss individuals of significant historical and cultural impact, including the esteemed civil rights attorney, Fred Gray.

We are calling on all Alabama State Representatives to RESPECT THE HISTORY OF ALL ALABAMIANS and not just a select few. Be a Representative for all Alabamians and VOTE NO ON SB 77!
