1. SB 1 would charge civic organization employees with a felony simply for getting an absentee ballot application for someone else. This document can be freely printed from the Secretary of State's website.
2. Civic organizations, churches, neighbors, and volunteers often play a crucial role in encouraging voter participation. Criminalization would hinder their efforts to assist community members in navigating the absentee voting process.
3. Limiting civic participation for Alabama’s most vulnerable citizens is an attack on democracy and an attempt to silence Alabama’s increasingly diverse population.
We are calling on all Alabama State Representatives to PUT PEOPLE FIRST and POLITICS ASIDE and VOTE NO ON SB 1! Alabamians deserve increased accessibility to the ballot, not more obstacles to cast their votes.
